ABOUT IMSUT CORD
Message from the Director

Hello everyone! In Japan, it is customary to preserve the umbilical cord as a memento of a baby's birth. This refers to the portion of the umbilical cord that remains attached to the baby's navel. Our goal is to develop cell therapies using this residual umbilical cord tissue. Mesenchymal stromal cells obtained from umbilical cord tissue have immune-modulating and tissue-repairing capabilities. We have been advancing our research to utilize these cells to treat intractable diseases. Currently, we are developing a stable providing system for clinical and foundational/basic research. We have established "Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo, Cord Blood and Cord Blood Bank (namely IMSUT CORD)" in April 2017 as part of the Clinical Research Support Organization of the IMSUT Hospital.
All staff at IMSUT CORD sincerely hope that this bank will facilitate numerous research projects and ultimately lead to the development of cell products that benefit patient care.
Director of IMSUT CORD, TOKIKO NAGAMURA-INOUE MD. PhD.
